PENOBSCOT, ME — A Bucksport man died after being ejected from his vehicle in a single-vehicle crash on Front Ridge Road.
The Hancock Regional Communications Center received a call reporting the crash at approximately 7:46 p.m. on March 21, 2026.
Zachary McKechnie, 35, of Bucksport, was traveling northwest on Front Ridge Road toward Orland when his black 2003 Volkswagen Jetta left the roadway, came back onto the roadway, and rolled before coming to a rest.
McKechnie was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and died as a result of his injuries.
The vehicle sustained significant disabling damage.
Speed and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors to the crash.
Detective Dylan Hall is the primary investigating officer.
He was assisted on scene by Lieutenant Dakota Dupuis, Sergeant Travis Frost, Deputy Wyatt Lord, and Deputy Taylor Keeran.
The Blue Hill Fire Department, Penobscot Fire Department, and Orland Fire Department also assisted on scene.
