RED HOOK, NY — State police have arrested a local man accused of digitally altering an image of a trooper and posting false accusations on social media.

Daniel R. Anderson, 44, of Red Hook, was charged with falsely reporting an incident in the third degree, a class A misdemeanor.

The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation at Rhinebeck said a trooper was attempting to interview Anderson at his residence regarding an unrelated incident when Anderson began filming the trooper and directing him to leave the property.

Police said Anderson captured a still image from the video, digitally altered it to conceal the trooper’s uniform, and posted it in a local community Facebook group with a caption accusing him of perversion and voyeurism.

The post caused public alarm and inconvenience to the trooper and the trooper’s family, according to police.

Anderson was taken into custody on an arrest warrant issued by the Town of Red Hook Court.

He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Red Hook Court on March 26, 2026, at 5 p.m.
