Portage woman arrested on grand larceny charge in Livingston County

PORTAGE, NY — A 56-year-old woman faces a felony charge after allegedly stealing $4,000 in cash from a business safe.

Tracy Watson, of Portage, was arrested July 2 and charged with third-degree grand larceny, according to Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty.

Deputies responded to a business in the town of Portage on June 26 for a report of a larceny.

Approximately $4,000 in cash had been taken from a safe, according to the sheriff’s office.

Sheriff’s investigators identified Watson as the suspect through their investigation.

Watson was transported to the Livingston County Jail for processing and pre-arraignment detention.

She was arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part before Town of Lima Justice Huff.

Watson was released on her own recognizance, as the offense does not qualify for bail under the New York State Bail Reform Act.

The Livingston County Public Defender’s Office represented Watson at the arraignment.

The Livingston County District Attorney’s Office represented the People.

Members of the Criminal Investigations Division, Patrol Division and Forensic Identification Unit handled the investigation.
