IRASBURG, VT — A motorcyclist died following a crash on VT Route 58 on July 4, 2026.

Vermont State Police, Orleans Ambulance Service and the Irasburg Fire Department responded to the crash near the intersection of Houston Heights at 11:31 a.m.

Korban Rutherford, 24, of Hanceville, Alabama, was traveling westbound on VT Route 58 on a 2021 Yamaha YZ250X when he swerved to the right, left the roadway and struck a tree, police said.

Rutherford sustained serious injuries and was transported to North Country Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses told police Rutherford appeared to swerve after perceiving a vehicle entering VT Route 58 from Houston Heights.

The operator of that vehicle, Cody Miller, 28, of Irasburg, was attempting to make a left turn from Houston Heights onto the westbound lane of VT Route 58 in a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado HD.

Interviews with Miller and witnesses revealed the Silverado came to a complete stop before entering the westbound lane and did not enter Rutherford’s lane of travel, police said.

Miller was not injured and his vehicle sustained no damage.

The crash occurred in clear weather on dry roads.

The investigation is ongoing.
