Medical examiner issues findings in Norwich death investigation

NORWICH, VT — The Vermont Health Department on Monday informed the Vermont State Police that the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office has issued findings regarding Noel Neely’s cause and manner of death.

The medical examiner determined the cause of her death was asphyxia by exclusion of oxygen.

The manner of death is listed as “could not be determined.”

The state police investigation into the circumstances leading up to and following the death remains active and ongoing.

Neely, 82, was found dead inside her home on Douglas Hill Road on the morning of May 9.

Police received a report of a deceased woman at the property at about 10 a.m. that day.

Initial investigation indicated the woman’s death occurred under potentially suspicious circumstances.

The state police is working in close communication with the Windsor County State’s Attorney’s Office regarding the details and circumstances of the case.
