Man shot during fight in Binghamton

BINGHAMTON, NY — A man was shot in the leg during a large fight on Gerard Avenue on July 4, 2026, according to the Binghamton Police Department.

Police were called to the intersection of Gerard Avenue and Walnut Street at approximately 9 p.m. for a report of a large fight and a man with a gunshot wound to the left knee.

Officers arrived to find a large neighborhood gathering that led to several people engaging in a physical altercation.

During the fight, a male suspect produced a handgun and fired a single round at a victim involved in the altercation, striking him in the left leg.

The victim was transported to a local hospital by emergency medical personnel for evaluation and treatment.

The victim underwent surgery to remove the projectile and is in stable condition.

Investigators with the Binghamton Police Detective Bureau determined the suspect fled the scene on foot before police arrived.

Both the suspect and victim were attending the neighborhood gathering.

The suspect is described as a light-skinned Black male in his late teens or early twenties with afro-style hair and a slender build, wearing a white tank top, black shorts and red sneakers.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The Binghamton Fire Department assisted at the scene.
