Man arrested on domestic charges in Canton

CANTON, NY — New York State Police arrested Hunter Sibbitts, 21, of Canton, charging him with Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree, Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree, Preventing an Emergency Call, and Harassment in the Second Degree.

Troopers responded to Irish Settlement Road in the town of Canton at approximately 12:23 p.m. on July 3, 2026, for a report of a domestic altercation.

An investigation determined that Sibbitts and the victim became involved in a verbal argument that escalated into a physical altercation.

During the incident, Sibbitts allegedly forced the victim from a vehicle, causing the victim to fall to the ground.

Sibbitts also allegedly took the victim’s cellphone, preventing the victim from calling for assistance.

Sibbitts was later located, arrested, and transported to State Police Canton for processing.

He was arraigned in the Town of Norfolk Court and was released on his own recognizance.
