COLONIE, NY — A wrong-way driver who struck an ambulance carrying a patient on Interstate 90 has been arrested on drunken driving charges.
Carson Williams, 25, of Schenectady, has been charged with Driving While Intoxicated and numerous other vehicle and traffic law violations.
Williams remains hospitalized and will be processed at a later date.
The collision occurred at about 8:59 p.m. June 27 on the exit 6 eastbound off-ramp of I-90.
A Colonie Ambulance was traveling eastbound on the off-ramp with a patient onboard, en route to Albany Medical Center, when Williams’ vehicle struck it.
The ambulance driver and the onboard paramedic sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Albany Medical Center for treatment and evaluation.
The patient did not sustain any injuries during the collision and was transported to Albany Medical Center by another ambulance for treatment of their original medical emergency.
Williams sustained significant non-life-threatening injuries and was also transported to Albany Medical Center.
