HARTWICK, NY — A woman faces multiple charges after authorities say she possessed and used illegal drugs while caring for two children.
Makayla E. Rutherford, 29, of Hartwick, was arrested June 24, 2026, following an investigation into a domestic dispute.
The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office determined through its investigation that Rutherford was in possession of and had recently used illegal controlled substances while having custody of two children.
Rutherford was charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and one count of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree.
She was processed and turned over to Otsego County Corrections pending centralized arraignment.
Rutherford is scheduled to appear in Hartwick Town Court.
