MAHWAH, NJ — A 45-year-old man has been charged with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child following an investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Mahwah Police Department.
Jason M. Herskovitz, of Hawthorne, was arrested Thursday in Wyckoff.
Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest, which resulted from an investigation conducted by the prosecutor’s office under the direction of Chief Jeff Angermeyer and the Mahwah Police Department under the direction of Chief Timothy O’Hara.
On Wednesday, the Mahwah Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding the alleged sexual assault of a juvenile that occurred in Mahwah.
An investigation revealed that Herskovitz sexually assaulted a juvenile on more than one occasion.
Herskovitz was charged with two counts of second-degree sexual assault and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
He was also charged by the Hawthorne Police Department with third-degree failure to provide notice and re-register as a sex offender.
Herskovitz was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack.
