NEW HARTFORD, NY — Police arrested a man on felony charges after he barricaded himself inside an apartment Friday evening.

New Hartford Police responded to Hartford Mills Apartments at 77 Clinton St. at approximately 8 p.m. June 26, 2026, for a report of an argument.

While responding, officers determined that one of the people involved was believed to be David Brand, 44, of New Hartford.

Brand was the subject of an active order of protection at the time and was wanted on an arrest warrant related to a previous domestic violence report involving the same victim.

When officers arrived, the victim became uncooperative and Brand entered the apartment, locked himself inside and refused to come out.

After a period of time, officers were able to enter the apartment to search for Brand.

Officers found him hiding in the bathroom.

Brand was arrested on the previously issued warrant and charged with second-degree burglary, a felony, and first-degree criminal contempt, also a felony.

He was transported to the New Hartford Police Department, where he was processed on the charges.

Brand was then taken to the Oneida County Jail and held for pre-arraignment.

He was later arraigned in Oneida County Centralized Arraignment Part Court, where he was held.
