Man arrested on DUI, cruelty to child charges in East Burke

EAST BURKE, VT — A New Hampshire man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and cruelty to a child following a crash on Kirby Road on June 27, 2026.

Troopers from the St. Johnsbury Barracks were notified of a motor vehicle crash on Kirby Road at 3:07 p.m.

Troopers located the suspect vehicle and identified the operator as Jay Harrington, 41, of Campton, New Hampshire.

Harrington told troopers he was driving with his eight-year-old son inside the vehicle when he drove off the road and struck a guardrail.

While speaking with Harrington, troopers detected indicators of impairment.

Harrington was arrested on suspicion of DUI and cruelty to a child and was transported to the St. Johnsbury Barracks for processing.

Harrington was issued a citation to appear in Caledonia County Superior Court – Criminal Division on July 13, 2026 at 8:30 a.m.
