NEWARK, NJ — Police have arrested a Newark man wanted on charges of attempted murder and other offenses stemming from a domestic violence incident.
Jose R. Soares, 45, of Newark, was taken into custody June 22 at Branch Brook Park, according to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr.
Soares faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and stalking involving a female victim he knows.
A warrant for Soares’ arrest was issued June 19, the same date he was identified as the suspect who stabbed a female victim.
Soares is also accused of repeatedly appearing at the victim’s residence unannounced, despite being repeatedly informed that his presence was not welcome.
“I commend the Newark Police Fugitive Apprehension Section for their commitment to quickly locating this violent offender,” Director Miranda said.
“Their tireless work to ensure that the suspect was apprehended to face these charges safeguards not only the victim, but every Newark resident and visitor.”
