CHELSEA, MA — A collision between a fuel truck and a sedan caused a hazardous spill and road closures on Eastern Avenue early Monday morning.
Chelsea Police received a call at approximately 5 a.m. for a motor vehicle accident in the area of 256 Eastern Avenue.
Responding officers discovered a black Honda sedan trapped underneath the fuel truck.
Two passengers in the sedan suffered minor injuries and were able to exit the vehicle on their own.
The fuel truck driver did not report any injuries at the scene.
The occupants of the sedan were transported to the hospital for further medical attention.
The fuel truck was carrying a full load of fuel and spilled some onto the roadway, creating a hazardous and potentially dangerous situation.
All traffic on Eastern Avenue was temporarily shut down and nearby businesses were evacuated until the scene was made safe by the Chelsea Fire Department and the Massachusetts State Police Truck Team.
One lane was later opened to alleviate traffic.
“All parties involved were extremely lucky and I am thankful they will be ok,” said Chief Keith E. Houghton.
“Officers on scene working along with the Chelsea Fire Dept. and the Mass State Police did a phenomenal job handling the situation and preventing any further danger to the other commuters.”
A further investigation will be conducted to determine if any violations were committed.
