LEWISBORO, NY — A firefighter was injured after falling into a basement while battling a house fire on Elmwood Road on Monday evening.
The Vista and South Salem Fire Departments were dispatched to the residence at approximately 8:08 p.m. for a report of smoke coming from a house.
Vista Fire Department Chief Jeff Peck observed smoke from the roof upon arrival and transmitted a first alarm assignment.
Fire was observed at the rear of the home during a 360-degree size-up.
Vista and South Salem firefighters stretched three 1¾-inch hoselines and worked to knock down the main body of fire.
Multiple mutual aid agencies responded to assist at the scene and provide coverage due to the size and complexity of the incident.
One mayday was transmitted during fireground operations after a firefighter fell from the first floor into the basement.
The firefighter was visible from the exterior, and crews from Vista and South Salem quickly worked together to remove the firefighter from the basement.
The firefighter was placed into the care of EMS, transported to the hospital for evaluation, and later released.
No occupants were home at the time of the fire.
The fire was reported by a passerby.
The Westchester County Cause and Origin Team responded to the scene.
Vista Command was terminated shortly after midnight on Tuesday morning.
