MATTAPAN, MA — A Hyde Park man has been arrested on murder charges after allegedly carjacking a vehicle and fatally striking a pedestrian on Saturday.
At about 1:59 p.m. on June 20, 2026, officers assigned to District B-3 responded to a radio call for a carjacking in the area of Blue Hill Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers observed an unresponsive adult female victim lying on the ground.
The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Officers observed a motor vehicle had crashed into an MBTA bus in the area of Blue Hill Avenue.
Officers observed a large crowd gathered around the crashed vehicle and an individual being restrained by several community members.
Officers identified the suspect and placed him into custody.
As officers continued their investigation, they learned that the initial incident had stemmed from an apparent motor vehicle collision in the area of Blue Hill Avenue and Woodhaven Street.
After the collision, the suspect exited the damaged motor vehicle and fled to the area of Blue Hill Avenue where he approached a female victim who was waiting at a car wash.
The victim stated the suspect pulled her out of her car and fled the wrong way on Blue Hill Avenue towards Mattapan Square.
After the carjacking, the suspect continued down Blue Hill Avenue driving at an accelerated rate of speed on the sidewalk where he struck the victim before crashing into another vehicle at the intersection of Blue Hill Avenue and Fairhaven Street.
The suspect fled the collision before coming to a stop after striking an MBTA bus.
The suspect was then forcibly removed from the vehicle and restrained by several community members until officers arrived at the scene.
Officers arrested Ibraim Matos, 37, of Hyde Park.
Matos is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of murder, carjacking, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in personal injury.
