NEW HARTFORD, NY — Police arrested a man on weapons and drug charges after responding to a report of someone chasing another person with what appeared to be a shotgun.
New Hartford Police Officers responded to a 911 call at approximately 9:30 a.m. Monday of a male chasing another male on foot along Elm Street while armed with a shotgun.
Arriving officers tracked the involved parties to a residence on Elm Street.
The involved parties were initially uncooperative with officers and would not come out of the house.
Police eventually got the involved parties to exit the home, including the alleged victim, alleged suspect and others.
Those involved stated that an argument had developed between Vincent Purdy, 67, of New Hartford, and others at the residence.
The involved parties were uncooperative with officers who were attempting to ascertain the location of the shotgun that was reportedly used during the incident and why Purdy was chasing a male on foot with a shotgun as was reported.
New Hartford Police investigators were called to assist and obtained a search warrant for the Elm Street residence in order to secure the gun that was involved.
While conducting the search, police found the shotgun, however it was determined to actually be a pellet style shotgun as opposed to an actual shotgun.
During the search, a quantity of narcotics and other weapons were readily observed while police were within the residence.
Purdy was charged with criminal possession of a weapon fourth degree, a misdemeanor, for possession of brass knuckles; criminal possession of a controlled substance seventh degree, a misdemeanor; criminal possession of a controlled substance third degree, a felony; and criminal use of drug paraphernalia second degree, a misdemeanor.
Purdy was processed at the New Hartford Police Department and is being held in the Oneida County Jail.
