OXFORD, NY — A Bainbridge man was arrested June 16, 2026, following a traffic stop that led to the discovery of multiple illegal weapons.
Members from the Troop C Violent Gang Narcotics Enforcement Team and the Community Stabilization Unit stopped a vehicle at approximately 1:56 p.m. on County Road 35 after observing multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law violations, including speeding.
The operator was identified as Joel Salinas Jr., 56, of Bainbridge.
During the roadside investigation, troopers observed a sawed-off shotgun and a chukka stick inside the vehicle, both of which are prohibited weapons under New York State law.
Further investigation revealed that Salinas was en route to sell the illegally possessed sawed-off shotgun.
An additional investigation resulted in the seizure of several other illegally possessed weapons, including three metal knuckle knives, two bludgeons, a billy club and brass knuckles.
Salinas was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the 3rd degree, a class D felony; criminal sale of a firearm in the 3rd degree, a class D felony; criminal possession of a firearm, a class E felony; and eight counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the 4th degree, a misdemeanor.
Salinas was processed and transported to the Chenango County Jail for centralized arraignment.
