Man arrested on firearm charges in Dorchester

DORCHESTER, MA — A traffic stop early Saturday morning led to the arrest of a Roxbury man and the recovery of a loaded firearm.

At about 12:27 a.m. on June 20, 2026, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) conducted a traffic stop which resulted in the arrest of Tyshawn Barton, 20, of Roxbury, and the recovery of a loaded firearm in the area of 18 Euclid Street.

While on patrol in the area of Washington Street, officers observed a motor vehicle operating at a high rate of speed.

Officers activated their emergency equipment and initiated a traffic stop in the area of Euclid Street.

As the vehicle came to a stop, the driver and the right rear passenger proceeded to exit the vehicle unprompted.

Officers ordered the two individuals to return to the vehicle, to which they complied.

Additional officers arrived on scene, and the four occupants were removed from the vehicle.

Officers located a bag in the right rear passenger compartment which contained a firearm.

The right rear passenger was subsequently taken into custody.

The remaining occupants were identified and released from the scene.

The firearm was determined to be a Sig Sauer P239 40 S&W semi-automatic handgun loaded with five rounds of live ammunition.

The operator was issued a Massachusetts Uniform Citation for violations of the auto laws.

Barton initially provided officers with a false name, but was later identified.

Barton is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, Carrying a Firearm without a License, Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card, and Furnishing a False Name.

Following further investigation, Barton was determined to have a felony default warrant out of Somerville District Court on charges of Conspiracy to Violate Drug Laws, Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B Drugs, and violations of the auto laws.
