Man arrested on firearm, drug charges in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, MA — A Philadelphia man was arrested early Saturday morning after police found him sleeping in a stolen vehicle with drugs and a loaded firearm.

Officers assigned to Squad “A” observed an occupied stolen motor vehicle parked at the intersection of Locust Street and Woodside Terrace at approximately 6:15 a.m. June 13.

Officers approached the vehicle and saw that the driver, later identified as Haleem Payne, 24, of Philadelphia, was sleeping.

Officers detained the suspect and located $615, three bags of heroin, crack-cocaine and the vehicle’s key fob on him.

During a search of the vehicle, officers recovered an additional $215 in cash.

Inside a bag, officers located a large-capacity firearm with a barrel extension and an extended magazine loaded with 19 rounds of ammunition.

Payne is charged with carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded large-capacity firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, possession of a large-capacity magazine/feeding device, receiving a stolen motor vehicle, possession with the intent to distribute a Class A drug, possession with the intent to distribute a Class B drug and possession with the intent to distribute a Class D drug.
