HILLBURN, NY — A two-car collision on a highway ramp early Monday morning left one driver dead and two others injured.
New York State Police troopers assigned to the Tarrytown Thruway Barracks responded to the crash on the northbound Interstate 287 ramp leading to the Interstate 87 northbound/southbound split at approximately 1:19 a.m. on June 14, 2026.
The preliminary investigation determined that a 2010 Honda Odyssey stopped on the center shoulder, over the white fog line and partially within the travel lane, while attempting to transition from Interstate 287 to Interstate 87.
A 2015 Mini Cooper, traveling in the same direction, subsequently struck the rear of the Honda.
The operator of the Mini Cooper was identified as Guido R. De Castro, 64, of Hewitt, New Jersey.
De Castro was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Good Samaritan Hospital.
Despite lifesaving efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The operator of the Honda Odyssey was identified as Orquidea D. Peña Henriguez, 40, of Hackensack, New Jersey.
Peña Henriguez and a 13-year-old passenger were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation remains ongoing.
