SPRINGFIELD, MA — Police arrested a man and recovered a loaded firearm following an armed robbery at a gas station Sunday night.
Officers responded to a gun call at a gas station on the 100 block of Armory Street at approximately 10:40 p.m.
The suspect allegedly stole phones from two victims while brandishing a firearm before walking away from the scene.
Cesar Vargas, 32, of West Springfield, returned to the scene while officers were investigating at approximately 11:15 p.m.
Officers found ammunition in his wallet and placed him under arrest.
A search of the nearby area turned up the two stolen phones and a firearm.
The firearm was loaded with six rounds of ammunition and capable of holding 12 rounds, making it a large-capacity firearm.
Vargas is charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a large-capacity firearm, two counts of armed robbery, possession of ammunition without an FID card, and improper storage of a firearm.
