NEWPORT –– A Wolcott man is heading to prison after admitting he held a woman at knifepoint in Newport last fall.
Adam Warner, 36, pleaded guilty to first-degree aggravated domestic assault, obstruction of justice and second-degree unlawful restraint.
Judge Rory Thibault sentenced him to three to five years. In exchange for the plea, prosecutors dropped three other charges, including a domestic assault count involving a weapon.
According to a Newport City Police affidavit, the case began in November of 2025, when a relative called police to report a woman was being held at knifepoint.
Police say the woman texted 911 herself, sent a photo of bruises, then slipped out of the home while Warner slept and drove to the police station.
She told officers Warner came at her with a chef’s knife as she lay in bed and threatened to kill her if she ever called police.
Investigators say Warner repeatedly called the woman and refused to turn himself in.
He was eventually tracked to Morrisville and arrested there.
