Man cited for assault on correctional officer in St. Johnsbury

ST. JOHNSBURY, VT — A New Hampshire man was cited for assault on a protected professional after allegedly spitting on a correctional officer at the Northeast Regional Correctional Facility.

Christopher Palermo, 49, of Andover, New Hampshire, was incarcerated at the facility when the incident occurred at approximately 7:20 p.m. on June 10.

According to police, Palermo initially refused to enter his cell but complied after a brief interaction with Correctional Officer Jacob LaRose, 28, of St. Johnsbury.

A short time later, while LaRose was conducting rounds, Palermo asked to speak with the officer.

When LaRose approached Palermo’s cell, Palermo allegedly spit in the officer’s face.

Palermo was cited to appear in court on July 13.
