Man arrested on firearms charges in Verona

VERONA, PA — A Verona Police officer conducting foot patrol along Arch Street observed a suspicious vehicle near Grant Street at approximately 11:47 p.m. Monday.

Upon further investigation, officers contacted the two occupants of the vehicle.

It was determined that both individuals had been trespassing in a nearby park while smoking marijuana.

During the course of the investigation, officers also discovered that one of the individuals was illegally in possession of a firearm.

A 26-year-old man from Pittsburgh was found to be in illegal possession of a handgun.

He was taken into custody and charged with firearms offenses, criminal trespass and marijuana charges.

He was transported and lodged at the Allegheny County Jail to await arraignment.

The second individual was charged with criminal trespass and later released.
