ALLENTOWN, PA — A teenager was fatally shot Sunday night, marking the second fatal shooting of a young person in the city in two weeks.

The victim was under 18 years old, according to a statement released Monday by Mayor Matt Tuerk.

Few details about the shooting were immediately available as police continue to investigate.

Tuerk said the incident occurred Sunday night but did not specify the time or location.

The mayor expressed condolences to the victim’s family and called attention to gun violence affecting young people in the community.

“Among the great tragedies of our time is that so many guns find their way into the hands of so many young people so easily,” Tuerk said in the statement.

Another young man was fatally shot in Allentown two weeks ago, according to the mayor’s office.

Police have not released information about any suspects or arrests in connection with Sunday’s shooting.
