SPRINGFIELD, MA — Members of the Springfield Police Department seized two dirt bikes and a quad during an off-highway vehicle enforcement detail Friday.

The department conducts these details to deter the illegal riding of dirt bikes and other off-highway vehicles, which are illegal on any city street and have led to serious injuries and death to numerous riders.

Officers working the anti-OHV detail observed a juvenile female riding a quad in the Newbury Street area.

Officers approached the rider when she stopped on the 100 block of Littleton Street and seized the quad.

A criminal complaint was issued to the juvenile, whose name and specific charges will not be released due to her age.

Officers later located a dirt bike rider in the area of Eastern Avenue.

With the assistance of crime analysts in the Springfield Police Real-Time Analysis Center, officers followed the dirt bike to Massachusetts Avenue, where it blew a tire.

The rider fell off the bike and officers approached.

The rider attempted to re-mount the dirt bike and struck an officer with the moving vehicle as he pulled a wheelie.

Officers placed the rider under arrest.

The officers received medical treatment on scene.

Jerome Jackson, 21, of Springfield is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, unregistered motor vehicle, uninsured motor vehicle and operating a snow/recreational vehicle on a public way.

As officers were conducting the detail, officers in Squad C observed a dirt bike rider in the South End.

Officers located the rider on Marble Street.

The rider, later identified as Ian Rosado, attempted to re-mount the dirt bike, but officers prevented that from happening.

Officers placed Rosado under arrest and seized the dirt bike.

Ian Rosado, 21, of Springfield is charged with operating a snow/recreational vehicle on a public way, uninsured motor vehicle and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
