Man arrested on menacing, endangering charges in Allegany

ALLEGANY, NY — A man was arrested following a domestic incident early Wednesday morning in which a woman escaped through a second-story window.

Salvador Casares, 47, of Allegany, was taken into custody at 12:54 a.m. June 3 at a residence in the village.

Deputies responded to the residence at 12:37 a.m. for a report of a female being held at knife-point.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered the female victim had exited her apartment through a second-story window and sought safety at a neighboring apartment.

The victim told deputies that Casares was still in her residence with children.

Casares was apprehended after deputies made entry to the residence.

He was transported to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office Sub Station where he was processed and charged with menacing in the second degree-weapon, endangering the welfare of a child, criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, criminal contempt in the first degree-physical menace, aggravated harassment in the second degree and resisting arrest.

Casares was transported to Hinsdale Town Court for arraignment, where he was remanded to the Cattaraugus County Jail.

New York State Police Olean assisted with the incident.
