SOUTH PORTLAND, ME — A man was arrested Thursday after police found black powder and a suspicious substance while executing a search warrant at his home.
John Flumerfelt, 40, of South Portland, was taken into custody at 65 Florence Street and transported to the Cumberland County Jail.
The South Portland Police Department and the Southern Maine Regional SWAT Team executed the high-risk search warrant at the single-family residence.
Detectives located black powder and an unidentified suspicious substance during the operation.
The South Portland Fire Department and the Portland Bomb Squad were called to the scene for an evaluation.
Residents of neighboring homes were evacuated as a precautionary measure.
Flumerfelt faces a charge of Criminal Use of Explosives.
Additional charges concerning firearm offenses remain under investigation.
