Man arrested on assault charge in Bath

BATH, NY — A 62-year-old man was arrested following a reported hammer assault at a residence on Belfast Street on June 1, 2026.

The Village of Bath Police Department was dispatched to the residence at approximately 11:42 p.m. for a report of an assault involving a hammer.

Upon arrival, officers observed a victim with wounds to his mouth consistent with being struck with a hammer.

Officers located the suspect, identified as David Hively, 62, of Bath, who lives in the same residence.

Following an investigation, officers placed Hively under arrest for the assault.

Hively was charged with one count of assault in the second degree and one count of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, both class D felonies.

Hively was transported to the Steuben County Jail and held due to his criminal history and being a three-time convicted felon.
