WILLIMANTIC, CT — A man was found dead from a gunshot wound early Saturday morning at an apartment building on Main Street.
Willimantic Police officers responded to the scene at approximately 1:45 a.m. for a report of a shooting victim.
Officers arrived within minutes and located one male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Officers immediately began performing life-saving efforts until Willimantic Fire/EMS arrived and took over medical care.
Despite the efforts of all first responders involved, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Preliminary findings indicate that a confrontation occurred inside the apartment between a suspect and the victim.
During the altercation, the suspect produced a pistol and shot the victim before fleeing the scene.
The Connecticut State Police Eastern District Major Crime Squad is actively processing the scene.
The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Police said there is no information at this time to suggest an ongoing threat to the public.
