PLAINSBORO, NJ — Three motorists fled from police during traffic stops over the past two months, resulting in criminal charges for all three drivers, according to the Plainsboro Township Police Department.
On March 13, Ummehaani Tohfafarosh fled from Ptl. Disler during an attempted traffic stop.
Ptl. Disler attempted to stop a red 2015 Hyundai Tuscon driven by Tohfafarosh, who disregarded the order to pull over.
Tohfafarosh continued into South Brunswick, accelerated and eluded officers who attempted to stop her.
No pursuit was initiated in compliance with the Attorney General Guidelines on Police Pursuit Policy.
Investigation revealed that Tohfafarosh was aware she was supposed to pull over for emergency vehicles with activated lights but failed to do so.
She was charged with multiple traffic and criminal charges.
On April 15, Guerson Petitmaitre fled from Det. Ullom during an attempted traffic stop.
After Det. Ullom activated his emergency lights and siren, Petitmaitre, who was operating a black 2014 Dodge Durango, disregarded the order to pull over and rapidly accelerated away.
Petitmaitre eluded officers at a high rate of speed, reaching 108 miles per hour.
No pursuit was initiated due to public safety risk and in compliance with the Attorney General Guidelines on Police Pursuit Policy.
A warrant was issued for Petitmaitre, who later turned himself in and was lodged in the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center.
On May 2, Deangelo Leverette fled from Ptl. Bowen during a traffic stop.
Ptl. Bowen observed a gray 2011 BMW 328 driving recklessly at speeds upward of 100 miles per hour and conducted a traffic stop.
Upon contact with the male driver, Ptl. Bowen observed signs of impairment.
The driver stated he consumed alcohol prior to driving, then after Ptl. Bowen requested his documents multiple times, the driver smiled, stated “No,” put the car into gear and rapidly accelerated from the traffic stop, nearly striking Ptl. Bowen.
The driver was later identified as Leverette.
Leverette had multiple outstanding warrants from multiple agencies for multiple criminal offenses.
A criminal arrest warrant was issued for Leverette, along with multiple traffic summonses, including driving while intoxicated.
Leverette remains at large.
The incidents occurred during the department’s Project Safe Roads initiative.
