Teen killed in single-vehicle crash in Clarendon

CLARENDON, VT — A 16-year-old driver was killed when his vehicle struck a tree on May 8, 2026.

Vermont State Police from the Rutland Barracks were notified of the single-vehicle crash on Creek Road at approximately 2:39 p.m.

Troopers determined Jacob Smith, of Proctor, was traveling south on Creek Road when he failed to maintain his lane of travel.

The 2006 Volkswagen Passat exited the east side of the roadway and collided head-on with a tree at 4422 Creek Road.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash occurred under clear weather conditions on dry roads.

Smith was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The Clarendon Fire Department, Regional Ambulance Service, the Vermont State Police Victim Services Unit and Carrara’s Services assisted at the scene.
