WOODBRIDGE, CT — Police are warning residents about fraudulent phone calls from individuals claiming to be with the Department of Homeland Security.
The callers are advising residents that suspicious packages are being sent to them and are requesting personal information, according to the Woodbridge Police Department.
Police said the Department of Homeland Security will not call residents requesting personal information over the phone.
Residents should not provide their Social Security number, banking information, passwords or any other personal information to unsolicited callers, police said.
Anyone who receives one of these calls should hang up immediately, police said.
Residents should not engage with the caller or send money or provide personal information, police said.
The incident should be reported to the local police department, police said.
Scammers often use fear and urgency to pressure victims, police said.
Police advised residents to always verify suspicious calls through official government contact numbers.
