Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run crash in Hackensack

HACKENSACK, NJ — Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced a fatal hit-and-run motor vehicle crash investigation.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:49 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Essex Street and Summit Avenue.

Hackensack Police Department officers responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.

Officers determined the pedestrian had serious injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle.

The vehicle that struck the pedestrian fled the scene of the crash.

The adult male victim was transported to HMH Hackensack University Medical Center and was pronounced deceased a short time later.

The Hackensack Police Department notified the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit.

Detectives from the Prosecutor’s Office and accident investigators from the Bergen County Fatal Accident Task Force responded to the scene.

The investigation is being conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jeff Angermeyer and the Hackensack Police Department under the direction of Chief Michael Antista.
