Vehicle fire extinguished on St. Luke’s Avenue in Peapack

PEAPACK, NJ — Officers from the Peapack & Gladstone Police Department responded to St. Luke’s Avenue on May 6, 2026, at approximately 8:44 a.m. following a report of a vehicle fire.

Upon arrival, Officer Gino Schifano observed that a garbage truck operated by Interstate Waste Services of Teaneck had discharged its contents onto the ground.

The debris was actively burning at the scene.

Officer Schifano deployed the fire extinguisher from his patrol vehicle to suppress and contain the fire until members of the Peapack & Gladstone Fire Department arrived.

Fire personnel subsequently mitigated the situation and fully extinguished the fire.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

Additional support was provided by the Peapack-Gladstone First Aid & Rescue and Somerset County Hazardous Materials Unit.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

St. Luke’s Avenue was reopened to traffic at approximately 11:49 a.m.
