Contractor charged with fraud in Lakewood

LAKEWOOD, NJ — A contractor faces theft and bad check charges following an investigation into an unpaid lumber bill.

Daniel Sachkowsky, 44, of Cream Ridge, was charged May 5, 2026, with Bad Checks and Theft by Deception by the Lakewood Police Department.

The investigation began after Woodhaven Lumber reported an unpaid balance related to a construction materials purchase made through NJ Home Builders & Renovations in 2023.

A detective determined that after the materials were delivered, the payment was disputed, resulting in a significant outstanding balance.

Several partial payments were made over time, but the balance was never fully satisfied and communication with the business eventually stopped, investigators said.

Sachkowsky was issued a summons pending court proceedings.

“These types of cases can have a serious financial impact on local businesses,” said Chief Gregory H. Meyer.
