SPRINGFIELD, MA — A Springfield police sergeant is being publicly recognized for his role in the arrest of one of Puerto Rico’s most wanted fugitives.
Superintendent Lawrence E. Akers commended Sergeant Luis Delgado for serving the public in a manner that reflects positively on the department.
Akers received an email from a senior officer detailing Delgado’s work on the arrest and planned extradition of the fugitive.
Delgado coordinated with Puerto Rico authorities to ensure the suspect would not be released on local charges after arraignment due to a fugitive from justice court warrant.
The sergeant worked beyond his scheduled shift to complete all documentation needed to establish probable cause for the fugitive charge.
Puerto Rico authorities agreed to extradite the suspect.
