BENSALEM, PA — The Bensalem Township Police Department is investigating several fraud attempts targeting residents and businesses conducting legitimate business with the Bensalem Township Building & Planning Department.
Scammers are using publicly available information to identify individuals applying for permits or handling other Township business involving fees, according to police.
Victims then receive official-looking emails and invoices that appear to come from the Bensalem Township Building & Planning Department requesting payment.
One of the fraudulent email addresses being used is [email protected].
This is not a legitimate Bensalem Township email address, police said.
Investigators have traced the activity to Nigeria.
Residents and businesses are reminded to use caution when receiving emails requesting payment.
Anyone conducting business with the Township who is suspicious of an email, invoice or payment request should contact the Bensalem Township Building & Planning Department directly at (215) 633-3600.
