Woman cited on assault charge in Highgate

HIGHGATE, VT — Vermont State Police have cited a woman on charges of aggravated assault and cruelty to a child.

Ashleigh Deyo, 23, of Highgate, was issued a citation on May 5, 2026.

Police said they initiated an investigation on Jan. 6, 2026, into allegations of child abuse against Deyo.

The investigation was conducted in conjunction with the Northwest Unit for Special Investigations, Department for Children and Families, and University of Vermont Medical Center.

Investigators determined that Deyo endangered the health and well-being of a 6-week-old juvenile in her care on Carter Hill Road.

Deyo was ordered to appear at the Franklin County Superior Court Criminal Division on May 6, 2026, at 1 p.m.
