Man taken into custody after standoff in LeRoy

LEROY, NY — A man was taken into custody without incident May 5, 2026, following a nearly day-long standoff at a rental property on Clay Street.

The Genesee County Communications Center received a call at approximately 11:50 a.m. from an adult male at the residence reporting suicidal ideation and stating he was in possession of a shotgun.

Members of the LeRoy Police Department responded to the residence and secured the area.

LeRoy schools were notified, and a local childcare facility was placed on lockdown as a precaution.

Initial attempts to contact the individual by phone were unsuccessful.

A drone was deployed and observed what appeared to be a shotgun inside a vehicle parked behind the residence.

At the time, the individual was inside the residence and not in proximity to the firearm.

The individual exited the residence and was taken into custody without incident.

He was transported to a nearby medical facility for evaluation and treatment.

No injuries were reported, and the firearm was not discharged.

The response involved the Batavia Police Department, including its Drone Unit, the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office and its Criminal Investigation Division, the New York State Police, including the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, and the LeRoy Police Department.
