WIND GAP, PA — A traffic stop early Sunday led to the arrest of a man on drug and driving charges after police say he attempted to remove crack cocaine from his vehicle during the stop.

Neil T. Brown, 53, of Pennsylvania, was pulled over at approximately 1:13 a.m. in the area of South Broadway and West Street after an officer observed multiple traffic violations.

Police determined Brown’s license was suspended for driving under the influence.

During the stop, the officer observed indicators of criminal activity and requested K9 Zorro to conduct a sniff of the vehicle.

The dog gave a positive indication to the odor of drugs within the vehicle.

Brown requested his house keys from the vehicle, and officers escorted him to retrieve them.

Instead of getting his keys, Brown grabbed a plastic bag containing crack cocaine and attempted to remove it from the vehicle, police said.

Officers placed him in custody and retrieved the drugs.

A consent search of the vehicle was then conducted, during which officers located additional bags of crack cocaine.

Brown was charged with tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving on a DUI-suspended license and various traffic offenses.

He was transported to the Northampton County Prison where he was arraigned by the on-call judge.
