MERIDEN, CT — Police have arrested a man in connection with a series of nine armed robberies that occurred between September and November.
Corey Alexis, 40, of Meriden, was apprehended as he prepared to commit another armed robbery at a local convenience store, according to the Meriden Police Department.
Five of the robberies involved a suspect armed with what appeared to be a firearm.
Alexis was found in possession of a BB gun at the time of his arrest.
He was charged with criminal attempt to commit robbery in the first degree and carrying a dangerous weapon.
Alexis was held on $1 million bond, with additional charges expected as police continue to investigate the other robbery incidents.
On Oct. 14, police responded to Sam’s Food Mart at 343 West Main Street for a report of an armed robbery with a firearm.
Following an extensive investigation, police identified Alexis as the suspect.
On April 29, Alexis, who is currently incarcerated, was formally charged with robbery in the first degree and larceny in the fifth degree with a court-set bond of $250,000.
The Meriden Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the Middletown Police Department, Connecticut State Police, Watertown Police Department, West Hartford Police Department and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force.
