Man charged with assault and harassment in Tannersville

TANNERSVILLE, PA — A man was arrested Monday morning in Tannersville after police responded to a domestic dispute on Mattioli Road.

Officers from the Pocono Township Police Department were called to the residence around 11 a.m. on April 21 for a report of a physical altercation.

According to police, 28-year-old Melquan Kirton of Pennsylvania is accused of pushing his pregnant girlfriend, a 22-year-old woman from Bartonsville, to the ground and striking her in the face with a bottle of lotion.

Authorities said the woman sustained injuries to her arm and face.

St. Luke’s EMS responded to the scene and transported the victim to a nearby hospital.

Kirton was taken into custody and charged with misdemeanor simple assault and summary harassment.

He was arraigned before Magistrate Kresge and placed in Monroe County Correctional Facility with bail set at $7,500 secured.

All suspects and arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
