Woman arrested on fraud charges in Lincoln

LINCOLN, RI — A Providence woman was arrested on multiple fraud charges Tuesday morning.

Maria Mejia Alfaro, 46, of Providence, was taken into custody at 11:30 a.m. by Rhode Island State Police troopers.

Alfaro faces charges of giving false document to agent, employee, or public official; obtaining property by false pretenses/personation over $10,000; fraudulently obtaining public assistance over $500; and fraudulent use of food stamps over $500.

The arrest was the result of the Providence Police Department locating Alfaro.

She was processed at the Lincoln Woods Barracks and transported to Third Division District Court for arraignment.
