RUTLAND, VT — A Rutland woman has been cited for allegedly smuggling marijuana and tobacco into a state correctional facility during a visit with an inmate.
Nichole LaFrancois, 27, of Rutland, was issued a citation on April 23 to appear in Rutland Criminal Court on a charge of transportation of contraband into a place of detention.
Vermont State Police said the investigation determined that LaFrancois transported marijuana and tobacco into the Marble Valley Correctional Center while visiting incarcerated inmate Jacob Alberico on April 4.
Alberico, 33, of Rutland, also faces a charge of transportation of contraband into a place of detention in connection with the incident.
Correctional officers at the facility interdicted a suspicious package that was transported into the facility during visiting hours, according to police.
The substances appeared to be of a personal use volume, police said.
When LaFrancois arrived at the Vermont State Police Rutland barracks to receive the citation, it was determined that she had an active arrest warrant for an unrelated court matter involving retail theft from Bennington Criminal Court.
LaFrancois was transported to Rutland Court where $200 bail was posted for her release.
LaFrancois is scheduled to appear in Rutland Criminal Court on May 18 at 10 a.m.
Alberico remains incarcerated on previous charges.
No bail was sought for the new offense.
