Driver killed in head-on crash during police pursuit in Johnstown

JOHNSTOWN, NY — A driver died after a head-on collision on State Route 30A on April 22.

State Police responded to the crash at approximately 10:44 a.m.

The investigation determined that a southbound passenger vehicle that was actively involved in a pursuit with the Johnstown Police Department entered the northbound lane and struck a northbound commercial vehicle.

The driver and sole occupant of the passenger vehicle was declared deceased at the scene.

The driver of the commercial vehicle was uninjured.

The Johnstown Police Department requested that the New York State Police, which were not involved in the pursuit, lead the investigation.

State Route 30A is closed in both directions between Glebe Street and South Melcher for collision reconstruction.
