NORTH ELBA, NY — A Hudson Falls man was arrested on a drunken driving charge after his pickup truck went off the road on State Route 86.

Troopers responded to the scene at approximately 5:26 p.m. on April 3, 2026, for a report of a vehicle in a ditch.

Upon arrival, troopers observed a white 2020 GMC Sierra pickup truck on the south shoulder with damage.

An investigation determined that the operator, identified as Nachum M. Friedman, 57, of Hudson Falls, was traveling east on State Route 86 when he lost control of the vehicle and exited the roadway.

Friedman left the scene prior to the arrival of law enforcement and emergency personnel.

Troopers later made contact with Friedman, who returned to the scene.

While interviewing Friedman, troopers observed signs of impairment.

Troopers attempted to administer standardized field sobriety tests, which Friedman refused.

Friedman was taken into custody and transported to State Police Ray Brook for processing, where he provided a breath sample registering a blood alcohol content of 0.15 percent.

Friedman was charged with driving while intoxicated with a previous conviction and was issued vehicle and traffic tickets.

Friedman was transported to the Essex County Jail for a pre-arraignment hold.

On April 4, 2026, he was arraigned in the Town of North Elba Court and released on his own recognizance.
