Man charged after dirt bike, bicycle collision in Lawrence Township

LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, NJ — A 21-year-old man faces criminal charges after a dirt bike he was operating collided head-on with a juvenile riding a bicycle.

The Lawrence Township Police Department received a call at approximately 8:08 p.m. on April 14 reporting a pedestrian struck in the area of 2083 Lawrence Road.

Officers responded and determined that a male operating a gas-powered dirt bike collided with a juvenile male riding a bicycle.

The investigation revealed that the dirt bike was traveling northbound on the southbound sidewalk of Lawrence Road while the juvenile was riding his bicycle southbound on the same sidewalk, resulting in the collision.

The juvenile sustained serious bodily injuries and was transported to Capital Health Regional Hospital for initial treatment.

Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick for further care.

The operator of the dirt bike reported no injuries.

Keith Terwilliger, 21, of Lawrence Township, was arrested and charged with assault by auto, a fourth-degree crime.

Terwilliger was processed and released on a complaint summons pending a court appearance.

Terwilliger was also issued seven motor vehicle summonses related to the incident, including reckless driving, careless driving, unregistered vehicle, unlicensed driver, driving on sidewalk, improper speed on sidewalk and uninsured motor vehicle.
