WORCESTER, MA — An 18-year-old man was arrested after police say he attempted to flee from detectives while carrying a ghost gun.
Members of the Worcester Police Department Gang Unit and Crime Gun Unit arrested Eliel Rios on Monday evening in the area of Suffolk Street and Wall Street.
Detectives were proactively patrolling the area at approximately 7:45 p.m. when they noticed two males walking.
One of the males was identified as Rios, who was known to detectives from a past firearm-related investigation and arrest.
Detectives observed the males exhibiting characteristics of being armed.
As detectives approached the males, Rios attempted to run away.
He was quickly detained and a loaded, large capacity, 9mm Polymer 80 unserialized firearm was recovered from his person.
Rios, who is ineligible to obtain a license to carry, was charged with carrying a firearm second offense, carrying a loaded firearm without a license to carry, possession of ammunition without a firearms identification card, possession of a large capacity feeding device, possession of an untraceable firearm and resisting arrest.
